August 2009 - ARC Expands Systems Engineering

ARC has recently recruited Don Reid into the Systems Engineering Team in Edinburgh.  Don was previously Instrument Technical Authority for INEOS Grangemouth, where he was responsible for Safety Integrity Level Assessments, LOPA, Reliability Modelling, Hazardous Area Classification etc.  He was also on the Buncefield Process Safety Leadership Group Working Group 3: Control and Instrumentation.

Optimisation of Passive Fire Protection

Non-linear finite element analysis software USFOS was used throughout the project and resulted in the removal of half the PFP previously recommended, which represents a considerable cost saving.ARC has recently being carrying out work for clients on the development of safety cases in the UK regulatory regime for new build nuclear reactors and associated plant. This is an exciting development for ARC which it is hoped will lead to further opportunities.

ARC has continued its relationship with clients in the Caithness area by recently sponsoring the Safari Open. UKAEA remains one of ARC’s biggest clients in the nuclear sector, and support is now being provided to them on commercial decommissioning activities, where safety case advice is being provided.
